about us

Abdoulaye Litni

company director & owner

Born as a nomad in the area of Timbuktu, Abdoulaye started his career as a local guide at the age of 15. A big passion to explore and discover new places made him start traveling to other parts of Mali where he learned about the country’s diverse tradition and history. Very soon he started exploring the Mauritanian desert and charming villages of Niger and Burkina Faso, now with many trips behind him. He spent a year in Ghana perfecting his English language skills and recently drove all the way to Senegal to finally swim in the ocean on the beautiful beaches around Dakar. After working as a freelancer for many travel agencies for more than 17 years, in 2021 he stepped in as the director of Papillon Reizen

Julien Borer

sales & marketing manager

Hailing from Switzerland, Julien has been living around Asia, Europe and Africa for more than 10 years. Dedicated to sustainable travel, contributing to local communities and learning about different ways of life, he loves to explore truly off the beaten path places and will never say no to a good local dish. Speaking French, English, Chinese, Thai and broken Spanish, he will be more than happy to make sure you’re having an awesome journey!

Monique Teggelove

founder

After a corporate career Monique traveled around the world for five years. She first set foot in Mali in 2009. In 2010 she founded Papillon Reizen in Ségou. Monique steered the agency through the many crises the country and region faced. She grabbed the opportunities of every crisis to expand the agency’s activities and destinations and to build a strong team.
During the 2020 crisis Monique felt it was time for another shift in her life and moved out of Mali. In November 2021 she handed the company over to Abdoulaye, team member from the first hour. Monique has since founded Papillon Fairtrade and has spent time writing and traveling.
